Small Grants -- Spring 2008

• Civil War Social ($1090) - Collaborative grant requested by the High School teachers Miller, Welch, and McHugh.  Students visit Lutz Franklin School; dress in period costumes and meet reenactors.  One social each semester.

• The Civil War Social was an interactive period-dress event for students, funded by the Foundation.

  King Lear Play ($361.00) – Twenty (20) tickets for play for AP English. Requested by High School teacher Barb Psathas to promote understanding of a Renaissance Tragedy. 
• Robot Kits ($1379.45) – Collaborative grant request by High School teachers Tracy Knapp and Jessica Sloan.  Students will build and program calculator controlled robots that will attach to a graphing calculator to record and analyze data.
• World Cultural Symposium ($700.00) – Honoraria fees and refreshments to host panel discussion on various world cultural beliefs and customs.  Targeted for High School World Cultures class and requested by Jessica Friday.
• Mentor Program ($408.71) – This program is to fill the void left by the Big Brother/Big Sister program.  Fifteen older students will be trained by a mental health specialist to work with elementary students.  Submitted by Russell Caravan, Middle School Mental Health Specialist.
• Professional Development ($963.60) – Fund four (4) modules for six Kindergarten teachers for early reading intervention.  Requested by Elementary teacher, Victoria Zuck and Coordinator of Academic Services, Vivian Demko.

Special Grant

• Elmo ($1700.00) – Purchase of a document camera for the Sixth Grade Team.  Applicable to math models, writing samples and science labs.

Small Grants – Fall 2008

• Stock Market Game ($145) – Eight student teams comprised of 30 kids.  Learn about buying and selling stocks.   Requested by middle school teachers Marsilio/Gilly.
• Creative Writing Club ($500.00) – Publication materials to create school literary magazine. Requested by High School Teacher  Megan Kern
• Day Out ($270.00) – Five to seven special education students will learn about nutrition and basic life skills by selecting a recipe, purchase groceries, prepare meal s and experience lunch at the SV Diner.
• Landscaping ($350.00) – Landscape project by middle school math students whereby they calculate area and perimeter, create scale drawing, purchase materials and complete landscaping.  Requested by David Lloyd.
• Blackboard ($500.00) – Purchase on-line tool for course information, content and homework. Requested by Cheryl Blaukovitch, High School Science.
• Art Club ($750.00) – Purchase of materials to start club and fees for visiting artists.  Requested by Felicia DeLosReyes, Art Teacher.
• Mock Trial ($350.00) – Participate in Pennsylvania Bar Association Mock Trial Competition.  Requested by High School Social Studies teacher Rita Chuhran.

• Study of Bones ($725.00) – Study a modern set of bones using forensic science techniques.  Requested by Kristin Richmond, Middle School Science teacher.
• Instrumental Clinics ($200) – Professional fees for 4 instrumental specialists to conduct clinics.  Requested by Kevin O’Connell, Music Department.

 Small Grants – Late Fall 2008

•  Beyond The Walls ($753.00) – 12 academically and economically at risk children to visit 3 local venues; Crayola, Museum of Art, and LV Airport.  Submitted by Carol Tavormina, Vivian Demk and Patti Deutsch.
• Aquarium ($750.00) – Purchase of two marine aquariums for plants, coral and fish.  To be used in the field of science as requested by Karen Pummer.

• An assembly line of workers constructing a large ceramic mural for the elementary school is one of the small grants provided by the Foundation.

  Senteo Response System ($2000.00) -   Response Technology (clickers) for math instruction and assessment. Collaborative grant from Elizabeth Allen and Tracey Knapp.
• Ceramic Mural ($2700.00) – Permanent art mosaic for the elementary school.  Visiting artist to provide hands on instruction for design and creation of mural and work with all fourth graders during art class as well as an after school workshop.  Submitted by Art teacher, Zaharoula Roumeliotis.
• Podcasting Plots ($1375.00) – Site license to create podcasts.  Submitted by fifth grade language arts teachers Kemper and Gazzana.

 Small Grants – Spring 2009

•  Imaginetic Gel boards ($215.24) – Tablet like magnetic boards used with a magnetic stylus.  Awarded to Elementary teacher, Amanda Bellucci.
• Aquarium ($530.00) –Additions of live rocks, sponges and fish to existing aquarium that was provided through prior grant. Submitted by Middle School science teacher, Karen Pummer.
• Orienteering - ($277.95) -   Extension course in the Middle School.   Students will learn to use a compass and read maps.  Proposed by Physical Education teacher, Philip Russell.
• Story of Survival ($545.00) – A Holocaust survivor to speak about the importance of education and acquiring tradesman skills to overcome hardships in life.  Submitted by High School Social Studies teacher, Michelle Horvath.  All Junior and Senior students to benefit.
• Fatal Vision Goggles ($695.00) – Purchase of six pairs of goggles that are used as a training tool to demonstrate the effects of alcohol impairment.  Grant proposed by the High School Physical Education teacher, Pamela Youngkin.

  Small Grants – Fall 2009

• Watch D.O.G.S  ($640.00):  A nationwide program that brings Fathers or Grandfathers into school one day to perform tasks such as greeting students, and helping in class.  Awarded to Elementary school teacher, Patti Deutsch.
• Marine Aquarium ($750.00):  Purchase of a Reverse Osmosis System and additional  rocks and food for the Middle School aquarium.  This is an add-on to a previously approved grant.  Awarded to Karen Pummer.
• View through the Shutter ($1381.00):  Purchase of 4 digital cameras for Middle School extension class.  Other uses to be yearbook, and school calendars.  Awarded to  Kim Young.
• Senteo Response System ($1800.00):  Onsite training for Senteo Response System to include up to 15 teachers.  Submitted by Lisa Allen, High School Math Teacher.
• Poetry Café ($500.00) :  Create coffeehouse in the High School courtyard and bring in 3-4 performers to recite works.  Students will have opportunity to present original works.  Submitted by Genia Miller.
• Cozy Reading Room ($1545.00):  Purchase of modular furniture for a recreational space in the High School Library.  Submitted by Amber Ziemba.
• Model U.N. ($700.00):  A trip to and tour of  the United Nations in New York City for club members and other interested students in social studies.  Awarded to Jessica Friday in the High School.
• Digital Display Board ($1475.00):  Purchase and installation of a flat screen television in the High School.  To be used for announcements, promote school spirit and emergency information.  Submitted by High School Administration.
• Video Animations ($1493.00):  Create video animations using 3 digital cameras, 4 flip video camcorders and play dough.  Awarded to Fifth Grade Language Arts Team.
• ELMO ($750.00):  Purchase of a TT-02RX document camera for Middle School Music Teacher, Annelle Conover.
